If you are anything like me, you know that when your wife asks you to do something or if something is possible you will go out of your way to make sure it is. Part of this equation for me was when we were building our new home and she was wondering if I knew how to build a fireplace or, more importantly and logically, if I could somehow find out how to build a fireplace. The answer, of course, was a resounding yes and I set out on the information highway to try and find out if I could find this information at all or if I was just stuck pretending. The end result should give hope to every man.

Learning how to build a fireplace can be a daunting task at first look, as most of the websites and assistance areas around assume that something is known about the art of building in the first place. It should be especially noted that building a fireplace is not something that a novice should attempt, so in the end it may be the best decision to actually go with a contractor and have them put in the fireplace that you desire instead of possible tearing half the house down trying to do one yourself. The best option in building a home and any part of it is always the simplest.

Take The High Road

In the end, it is important that you are happy in your home. Part of that happiness, to some, means that you have put a lot of work into it and that you are able to point to certain things in it and say that you made it. That part of happiness for our home happened to be the fireplace for my wife and with her loving eyes set on me I set out to do the job that I knew I could not conceivably perform to any degree of reasonable success. This presented a challenge; however, as with her looking on I had to have some idea of what I was doing.

In the end, of course, it turned out that I had no idea how to build a fireplace and seemingly my wife also knew that I had no idea how to build a fireplace. Instead of struggling about towards a potentially dangerous outcome, my gracious wife let me off the hook to rest assured with the knowledge of the lesson learned. Today, it was all about knowing when not to do a job and when not to assume you know everything. If something is dangerous and you are not sure, get help. You will be glad you did and it could save a lot of time and potential injury.
